Algarve holiday offers 'best beach' nominee

Taking a holiday in the Algarve will allow tourists to visit and enjoy a potentially award-winning beach.

The shore at Dona Ana in Lagos, close to Portimao, has been nominated for the Best Beach prize at the upcoming World Travel Awards.

A host of attractions and facilities in the region make the cut, including a number of hotels, perhaps emphasising the quality to be found when booking a villa in the Algarve.

People heading to Portugal will also be pleased to note there are other nominated sites around the country, some of which could potentially make for a top day trip.

For example, the country's capital city of Lisbon is named as one of 17 contenders for the title of World's Best Destination.

Fans of the band U2 could time their arrival on the Algarve to coincide with the group's visit to both south-west Spain and Portugal next month as part of their world tour.
