Algarve holiday makers advised to book rental cars early
Brits heading to The Algarve on villa holidays this summer should book their rental cars early to avoid the disappointments of last year.
This is the advice from Blue Valley Car Hire, which explained that many car rental companies in southern Portugal bring in additional vehicles during the Easter and summer holidays when demand is higher.
Matt May, a spokesman from the company, said the Europe-wide credit crunch has made it harder for fleets to obtain additional cars.
"We are anticipating a similar situation in 2010, so we recommend that people book as early as possible," he commented.
"The situation at the holiday airports of Spain and Portugal in August 2009 was very frustrating for tourists hoping to pick up a holiday rental car."
Mr May went on to say that, by booking early, holiday makers can ensure that a car will be waiting for them on arrival in their name, which will avoid the need to pay higher prices at the airport.
According to algarve-beach-life.com, car rental customers in the region should "drive defensively" as standards aren't always as high as they are in the UK.
