Algarve holiday hits the spot for Ernie Els

The Algarve is renowned for its world-class golf courses and a Portugal villa holiday in the region certainly pleased professional player Ernie Els.

In a blog post on the PGATOUR.com website, the sportsman said he stayed in the resort of Quinta do Lago, which boasts some "superb" courses.

But he insisted that the Algarve is perfect for families as well as keen golfers and a great place to chill out and unwind.

"We spent a lot of time by the pool, so the kids were in heaven," he said. "That part of the Atlantic coastline has some beautiful beaches as well, so we made the most of that."

And he claimed that the food on offer in local restaurants is "wonderful", particularly the seafood dishes.

Golfing enthusiasts looking for somewhere they can indulge in their favourite pastime and please the rest of the family could rent Algarve villas at the Monte da Quinta Club Golf and Beach resort in Quinta do Lago.

As well as its own shopping centre, hairdresser and beauty salon, there is also a Kids World club offering fun activities for children aged three to 12.
