Algarve coastline a 'spectacular' sight
Writing for the Irish Times, Conor Power said he spent an afternoon during his own family holiday exploring the region's costal caves.
He claimed that any coastline is best viewed from the perspective of a boat and at the "luxuriant" pace such a mode of transport allows.
"It's doubly true of the Algarve, out of whose red and cinnamon-coloured cliffs have been hewn some of the most spectacular caves, beaches and rock formations that you're likely to see anywhere," Mr Power remarked.
He likened the caverns to smugglers hideaways and said he almost expected to find contraband such as rum bottles and jewellery hidden among their depths.
Holiday makers eager to follow in Mr Power's footsteps and explore the Algarve coast on a boat trip could rent a villa in the family-friendly resort of Carvoeiro.
From here, they can book a boat trip to see the caves and rock stacks of Algor Seco or the quieter coves nearby.
