Algarve a 'sporting destination'
Not only has the Algarve been selected host the World Series Snooker Grand Final, which will be held in Portugal for the first time, a whole host of sporting events are lines up to take place this summer.
According to the Portuguese Tourist board, other events heading to the region include the Portugal Power Boat F1 Grand Prix in Alvor, the Le Mans Series 2009 and the Portugal Golf Masters - as well as the SuperBike Grand Prix, which will be held for the second time in the new Portimao Racetrack.
In addition to top sporting events, the board claims holiday makers will be able to enjoy a series of concerts, as well as "a plethora art exhibitions and gastronomy festivals".
One of the places visitors may like to rent a villa in order to take advantage of the culture, sports, music and gastronomy programme on offer in Portugal is Gale in Albuferia, which boasts a long sandy beach to relax on.
