Full description
A holiday at Villa Heraclea is a rare find indeed. Located just metres from the tree-lined quayside in the heart of Hvar Island’s main town, this exquisite period townhouse has recently been renovated to the highest of standards under the watchful eye of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments. Dating from the height of the Baroque era, the villa oozes character and elegance, now further enhanced by clever design and building techniques that have brought its comfort level right into the 21st century.
Tucked away up a quaint cobbled street, the simple yet handsome exterior gives little clue as to the luxurious home contained within. A calm palette of soothing neutrals keeps the décor fresh and timeless, with classic painted furniture and a mix of broad oak floorboards and cool limestone flags.
On the ground floor the light-filled living room is the essence of relaxed sophistication, with plush sofas, a cosy fireplace, soft lighting and carefully selected pieces of contemporary artwork. Three graceful arches, each housing a set of French windows, open out onto the romantic stone balcony that overlooks the pretty harbour and the hills beyond. Watching the comings and goings of the little fishing boats and luxury yachts from here is an absolute treat.
There are five serene, tastefully decorated bedrooms, each with its own immaculately presented, contemporary-styled en suite shower room and complimentary bath products. The master suite on the first floor has gorgeous views over the harbour, its sumptuous en suite boasting striking cylindrical twin basins and a huge freestanding bath.
A beautiful open-plan kitchen and dining room opens out through patio doors to a magical courtyard garden, planted with fragrant lemon trees, lavender and rosemary. There’s an outdoor dining suite for relaxed alfresco meals and various loungers and chairs, thoughtfully positioned in corners of natural shade where you can chill out with a cool drink and your favourite book.
An inviting heated pool has been imaginatively crafted in the remains of an old Gothic building, with a glass roof that can be open or closed according to the season. On the lower ground floor is an additional surprise: a private spa area complete with fabulous Jacuzzi, sauna and massage room so you can indulge in a little pampering during your stay.
With the delights of Hvar right on your doorstep you can meander at leisure through picturesque alleyways, sip coffee in the square beneath the ancient cathedral tower or browse the market stalls along the bustling quayside. Hvar has an abundance of sophisticated bars and restaurants to choose from and a vibrant nightlife, particularly in the summer months. There are boat trips available to the nearby Pakleni islands and of course an array of secluded pebble coves where you can take a dip in the crystal waters of the Adriatic.
Villa Heraclea comes staffed with a housekeeper and daily maid service is provided.
